In a movement which has been growing stronger over the last 12 months we have seen the Federal Government in the US take action against a ring of casino players who stand accused of conspiracy and racketeering charges. These are very serious issues in the US and there is a high probability that jail terms will be dished out to at least some of the accused – if found guilty.
The indictment is the latest to hit the US news and was opened on Thursday and read on Friday at the start of what is expected to be a long drawn out court case. While there are 11 members of the alleged ring in the court room a further 17 have already admitted to their part in the operation.
The alleged fraud saw the group travelling the world since March 2002 and using a mixture of strategies and actions, rig a number of blackjack and mini-baccarat games. Using surveillance equipment, computer software and good old fashioned bribes it is known that a substantial amount of money was banked.
At this moment in time there has been no mention of the alleged figures in question but we should soon hear the extent to which the alleged ring benefited.
