After the longest final table in WSOP history, John Juanda takes it down.
Friday 3rd October 2008
After officially the longest final table in the long and chequered history of the World Series of Poker, Californian Full Tilt pro John Juanda added nearly $2m to his overall tournament winnings, taking down the WSOPE £10,000 Main Event for £868k (approx. $1.7m).
A key hand came early this morning after players had been going at it for 21 hours – on a flop of QhKc7c both John Juanda and sinister-looking Russian Stanislav Alekhin got 6.5m chips in the middle with Kh6h and 4c3c respectively. Juanda’s top pair held up to give him a dominating 11-1 chip lead.
After that it was only a matter of time, and the big hand occurred when Alekhin pushed preflop with A9o. Juanda made the call with K6o and the Russian was a 63% favourite. The percentages got flipped on their head after the 66x flop as Juanda now found himself as 99% favourite. The turn bricked and the Year of the Pro continues as Juanda wins £868k at The Empire.
