Can the online casino sector save the US casino industry?
Friday 10th October 2008
As we hear news of declines in casinos revenues in Atlantic City, Nevada and Las Vegas to name but a few there are many who are speculating how the reintroduction of the online casino sector would assist this great American pastime. Would it help to retain business levels? Would it attract more new customers to the sector?
A quick look at the non-US online casino industry actually makes fairly good reading even when set against what is turning into one of the worst worldwide economic slowdowns in living history. The camp is split as to whether we are seeing traditional offline casino players move online or we are experiencing the emergence of a new and growing breed of online casino players.
Whatever the case there is no doubt that online casinos are holding up much better than there offline counter parts and events such as WSOP are only helping to bring the sector out of the shadows and into the mainstream of society. As the US ponders a return to the online environment it seems that this delay is costing money and giving non-US online operations more time to establish themselves and ready their war chests for what must be the inevitable return of the online US market.
