It was a case of home, sweet home for Daniel Craker when he beat over 300 competitors in the $3,000 buy-in Festival of Poker to take home $257,040.
A plasterer from Lower Hutt, he won his entry to the high-stakes game via a smaller satellite tournament. The competition was fierce, with 306 players from 21 different countries combining to create the $800,000 prize pool. 2005 World Series of Poker Main Event winner Joe Hachem also played.
As well as the cash prize, confirmed when his pair of twos held up in the heads-up match against Matthew Konnecke, who won $162k, Craker wins entry to the Asian Pacific Poker Tour Grand Final in Sydney.
