Irish government viewing online gambling as an opportunity, not a threat.

Ireland has announced plans to use online casinos as methods of revenue for the economy at a time where the US is fearful of online gambling and economic disaster looms.
The Gaming and Leisure Association of Ireland has petitioned the government to make public and regulate casinos in the country, and to legislate moves designed to draw online gambling operators to Ireland as a base.
Estimating that the online casino industry could generate 10,000 jobs, revenue from the regulation of the casinos was calculated as potentially as high as $68 million annually.
It is clear that if this plan is employed and successful that such benefits would be many times greater in the USA, perhaps paving the way for acceptance of online gambling in the country.
