As the Capello era continues to roll on we seem to be seeing the emergence of a new improved England team which seems more confident in its own ability. Players are playing for the jersey rather than playing for themselves and it seems that the England dressing room is a very happy place at this moment in time.
Tonight’s 3-1 victory away to tricky opponents Belarus has taken England well ahead in the group with four wins out of the first four qualifying games. Goals for Steven Gerrard and a double from Wayne Rooney were the answer to the tricky Belarus team who started well and were unlucky to fall behind in the first half.
While they drew level towards the close of the first half, we saw a different England team emerge in the second half and take the game by the scruff of the neck. The players now take a well earned 6 month break from international games and can come back refreshed and full of hope next year. So it this to be England’s tournament?
While it would be foolish to get carried away at this moment in time it does seem that confidence has returned to the team under Capello. Let’s hope that he can carry this on to the World Cup Finals in 2010!
