In a move which is sure to be highly embarrassing for the lottery industry and in particular the Virginia Lottery scheme it has been announced that over 600 lottery tickets were printed for the new $2 Fast Play Super 7’s game in error. More than 600 people left the lottery stands thinking that they had won $7,777 or even worse, the jackpot for the lottery!
Before the error was spotted, of 2,336 tickets sold it has been confirmed that 600 were winning tickets printed in error. While the reverse of the tickets has a section of small print which seemingly protects the state from paying out in such situations there is a legal argument going on right now about the issue.
As lottery players look to push home their claims it seems as though the administrators of the Virginia Lottery are on the verge of giving up the fight and possibly paying out on the incorrect tickets. Quite why they are considering a change of stance is unknown but the damage to the long term credibility of the Virginia Lottery (and the loss of income) could be more than the amount they may have to pay out on the dud tickets.
