While the name Brad Daugherty may not be one which is instantly recognisable to many poker players he is actually the man who brought home the first $1 million prize pot at WSOP. The event was WSOP 1991 and after a tough tournament which saw a record 215 entrants at the time, Brad Daugherty held his nerve at the final table to bag the big one. But where is he now, and what is he up to?
Born on 5th July 1951 in Mountain Grove, Missouri Brad Daugherty started his poker career on a school trip in 1969 when he immediately fell in love with the game, a game which was literally to change his life in later years. Originally he was a construction worker but when he found out about some of the big money poker tournaments in the pipeline he decided to move lock stock and barrel to Reno, Nevada where his journey began!
He won his first tournament in 1987 and then came the 1991 World Series of Poker event which he entered with trepidation. While his total poker tournament winnings to date are around $1.7 million he has made a living from writing an array of poker books. He still plays the big events and is regularly online but the new age of poker has pretty much passed him by. But he still goes down in WSOP history.
