Who has the best draw for the Breeders Cup Classic?
Thursday 23rd October 2008
As the draw for the Breeders Cup Classic was made today the interest in Saturday’s event has now reached fever pitch. The 7/5 favourite Curlin has been drawn in stall nine which while not the best draw, will have less of an impact over the 1 1/4 mile track. The two UK shots, Duke of Marmalade and Henrythenavigator (both 10/1 shots) have been drawn in stalls 4 and 5 respectively. So who will grab the big one? Who will walk away with the Breeders Cup Classic?
While the hot money is on Curlin and Robby Albarado, Duke of Marmalade and Henrythenavigator ridden by Johnny Murtagh and John Velazquez respectively have a good chance of taking the spoils. But there has been good money of late for the ride of Frankie Dettori who takes charge of Raven’s Pass, a 6/1 shot with the bookies before race day.
Even though the big bucks have come onto Curlin, there is speculation that he may not cope with the new synthetic track at Santa Anita, possibly leaving one of the less fancied horses to take a lead. Whatever happens this year we are seeing the strongest British contingent at the race for sometime, and unlike years gone by, there is a great chance of a UK victor on Saturday.
