As he gets ready to take on the best in the world at the Breeders Cup Classic on Saturday there is a growing belief that Curlin could become one of the greats of all time. He has it all, the looks, the build and he has a track record which shows 15 races, 11 wins, 2 seconds and 2 thirds and you must remember that these races were also against some of the best horses in US and world racing.
It is a little known fact that while his blood line was such that he was destined for greatness, after his debut in February 2007 an 80% stake in the horse was sold for a staggering $3.5 million – not a bad return on a new horse to the scene!
It is also interesting to see that majority owner of Curlin is Jess Jackson who lives in San Francisco, not far from the spot where the greatest racing legend of all time was buried, Seabiscuit. If Curlin can get anywhere near the quality of the famous Seabiscuit then he will have done very very well. For those who have never heard of Seabiscuit, get yourself a copy of the film showing the horse’s career as it is breath taking.
