Who would ever have thought you would see the day when you walk into a casino and you can place a bet on the NBA? Well it just happened, again, in the US and now that the back of this lucrative betting sector has been broken there may be many more to follow in due course.
The latest casino to benefit is the Palms Casino Resort in Sacramento which is owned by the Maloof family who strangely enough happen to own the Sacramento Kings who are part of the NBA movement. While eyebrows have been raised and clarification sought it seems as though a simple and very public request some time ago has been accepted by the NBA board of governors although the casino is not allowed to take bets on the owner’s team.
While American Football is the largest gambling sport in the US, the NBA is not a million miles behind and still very lucrative. Harrah’s Entertainment has a similar deal in place allowing their casinos to take bets on the NBA and there is speculation that American Football could be next.
However, will this now prompt the bookmakers in the US to step into the casino industry and try and grab back some lost revenues?
