As Andy Murray booked his place in the semi-finals of the St Petersburg Open there is a growing belief that the young Scot has stepped up to the top level over the last few weeks and could be on the crest of something remarkable in British tennis. Fresh from his win in the Madrid Masters Andy Murray is now odds on favourite for the St Petersburg event and another trophy for the cabinet. So what next for the Scot?
So far, prior to this year, Andy Murray has very much flattered to deceive, having one good game then a bad one, taking some of the larger scalps only to be blown away by lower ranked players. However there seems to be a real buzz around Andy Murray at the moment, he has worked on his fitness and his choice of shots is far better than many give him credit for. While not the finished article yet he now has the respect of the top players in the world and the UK finally has a tennis player we can be proud of.
All eyes are on Murray over the next few weeks to see if he can continue his great run and really stamp his mark on the game.
