Plans to bring a new gaming centre to Norfolk will reach the next stage this week, when councillors consider a proposal from local businessman Albert Jones.
In partnership with gaming operator Aspers and development consultant Karen Hawes, the Pleasure Beach owner is seeking permission to build a £35 million hotel and casino development known as The Edge in Great Yarmouth.
The seaside resort was one of eight UK locations selected for a large casino licence under new gaming legislation introduced earlier this year.
Mr Jones's plan, described by the Eastern Daily Press as a "vision of Monte Carlo-style gambling on the east coast", has been modified from an earlier blueprint drawn up in 2007.
The hotel will now take up six storeys of the development rather than eight, with the number of rooms reduced from 180 to 138, although it is not yet clear whether the gaming area has been altered.
Planning officials are set to discuss the proposal at a meeting on Thursday October 30th.
Existing gaming venues in Great Yarmouth include the Mint Casino, which offers roulette and blackjack facilities, as well as weekly poker tournaments.
