National Lottery Reports Sales Boost

The recent performance of the British Olympic team helps operator to record 7.6 percent increase in ticket transactions.

Friday 31st October 2008

In the UK, the operator of the National Lottery, Camelot Group, revealed its results for the half-year ending in September showing a 7.6 percent increase in tickets sales to $4.185 billion. The Watford-based operator revealed that total retails across the National Lottery’s portfolio grew by $296.36 million driven by a 6.4 percent increase in sales of draw-based games to $3.227 billion. This included a $14.72 million rise in Lotto sales in addition to double-digit growth in non-draw-based games, which rose by 11.9 percent to $958.18 million. Camelot stated that its performance was buoyed by Britain’s success at the recent Olympic and Paralympic Games in China while the new version of its Go For Gold game delivered its highest sales of any non-draw-based title over the period. In addition, a series of mega EuroMillions jackpots also upped performance. It said that bricks and mortar retail channels remain its largest single distributor with sales growing by $171.229 million to $3.752 billion. In addition, sales of its National Lottery Fast Pay service, which enables players to store game preferences on a reusable card and take part in draw-based games at the checkout, rose by over 103 percent to $509.084 million. Sales across its National-Lottery.co.uk interactive lottery alongside the Sky Active and Play By Text mobile telephone service recorded double-digit growth of the period to reach $376.644 million. In addition, the online service became one of the top five e-commerce sites in the UK in terms of monthly visits after signing up its 4.4 millionth registered player thanks to the recent Who’s Next? Lotto integrated advertising campaign. “The underlying driver of this growth has been our five-year strategy of expanding the range of National Lottery games to appeal to a diverse cross-section of players,” said Dianne Thompson, Chief Executive Officer for Camelot.
