JC Tran Wins Partypoker Premier League III
Tran beats the world’s best players to claim a $300,000 prize.
Monday 1st December 2008
The Party Poker Premier League’s third incarnation has come to a dramatic end with Asian Poker Tour and PKR representative JC Tran taking down the competition for a cool $300,000. This continues a great 2008 for Tran after winning a WSOP bracelet – his first – earlier this year.
The chip counts and seat draws for the final table were as follows:
Seat 1: Tom Dwan (United States) - 260,000
Seat 2: Juha Helppi (Finland) - 340,000
Seat 3: Tony G (Australia) - 260,000
Seat 4: Roland de Wolfe (United Kingdom) - 230,000
Seat 5: JC Tran (United States) - 450,000
Seat 6: Peter Eastgate (Denmark) - 390,000
The action soon got going as Tony G raised pre-flop with T9o only to be re-raised by Tom Dwan holding Qc-4c. After calling, Tony G saw the flop come 4d-Jc-Tc and moved all-in over Dwan’s bet. The young internet pro called and missed his outs on the turn and river, doubling Tony G up to $434,000. However, Dwan was not the first to leave as JC Tran trapped 2008 WSOP champion Peter Eastgate with his aces.
Tony G held an impressive chip lead as play went three-handed but Tran staged a huge comeback, culminating in his top pair besting Tony G’s open-ended straight draw and winning the $300,000.
