A profile of Cycalona "Clonie" Gowen

Friday 2nd January 2009

The life of professional American poker play-off Clonie Gowen has been anything but easy and while she is one of the best-known lady poker players on the scene she seems to attract flattering headlines and controversy in equal measures. Born in 1971 in Dallas, Texas, Clonie Gowen spent most of her life growing up in Kiowa, Oklahoma where she won a number of beauty contests, was a member of the local basketball team and a state level high jump competitor.

However Clonie Gowen seemed to take to poker like a duck to water and she has managed to pull off a number of very successful tournament wins and top-10 finishes. Gowen first came to the attention of the national poker scene with her top-10 finish at the World Poker Tour Costa Rica Classic only to follow this up with a win at the WPT ladies night event in 2003. She has also been highly successful in the Poker After Dark TV competitions and has live tournament wins in excess of $1.5 million.

While she continues to comment and play in a number of the better poker tournaments around the world she is currently in dispute with the Full Tilt Poker team having filed a lawsuit claiming $40 million in damages for alleged breach of contract.
