Surely Mark Hughes days are numbered at Manchester City?
Sunday 4th January 2009
Today saw the humiliation of Mark Hughes’ Manchester City with a three nil home defeat at the hands of championship relegation battlers Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup. The richest club in the world was literally taken to the cleaners as Mark Hughes career reached a new low. Despite receiving the dreaded vote of confidence just a few days ago and confirmation that he would be in position to spend up to £80 million in the transfer window there is tonight serious concern about his future at the club.
Manchester City took the opportunity to parade new signing Wayne Bridge whom they bought from Chelsea for £12 million earlier this week. There is immense concern about the defensive frailties of the team and while the arrival of Bridge will assist in this department it may have come too late to rescue Hughes. The faithful fans of the blue side of Manchester have given their manager plenty of support and assistance over what has been a difficult few months. Not only are they in serious relegation trouble in the premiership but they have been dumped out of the FA Cup by a team threatened with relegation to division one.
