Those who follow the poker market will know that ex-tennis ace Boris Becker is becoming a more high profile member of the poker community with his adverts on television and his appearances at a number of high ranking tournaments. However, Becker is to take part in an online battleship poker tournament to be hosted by PokerStars in an event known as the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in Nassau, Bahamas.
For those who have not come across battleship poker, this is a head-to-head event which is played online via laptops but the players face each other eye to eye although each is not able to see the others screen. This is a bizarre mix of online poker and head-to-head poker and one which will earn the winner a $10,000 PCA main event seat. The online qualifiers include Josh Miloy,Itsik Oknin, Keith Anderson and Michel Dion.
While battleship poker is not to everyone's taste it is an intriguing and complex arrangement which pits online player against online player while allowing them to use their poker faces and try to read their opponent. We will continue to monitor the event and confirm whether the youngest ever Wimbledon winner Boris Becker was able to beat the qualifiers.
