Andy Murray swells his bank account with Abu Dhabi win
Monday 5th January 2009
Tennis sensation Andy Murray has taken the Abu Dhabi tennis final beating Rafael Nadal 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 in a three set thriller. Historically Murray has had problems playing the ultra-fit Nadal who has ground down many players over the last couple of years with his power and pace. However, Andy Murray seems to have found a new lease of life of late and followed up his excellent 2008 with a first tournament win in 2009. He now heads to Doha for the Qatar Open and the chance to improve his ranking in the men's tennis world.
Each game that Murray has played over the last 12 months has given him something extra for the future and the knowledge that he is able to beat anyone on this day. He has taken apart some of the world's best players and many experts in the sport believe he could actually make it to number one this year. While this would be a massive challenge even for Andy Murray if he continues to progress it seems inevitable that he will one day reach the pinnacle of men's tennis.
Many tennis traditionalists in the UK are praying that his form continues into Wimbledon and we see the first British winner for many years.
