New Jersey lottery are bringing in new online game

New game will be based on Tetris computer game and offer winnings up to US$10,000

Tuesday 2nd November 2004

In New Jersey in the USA, the state lottery is launching a second online game for punters within the state. After launching Cyber Slingo in February, the New Jersey Lottery have decided to add another product to their online offerings. The new games is based on the popular old school computer game Tetris, and interested players will be able to purchase tickets from retailers which will hold a scratch off computer access code which will enable them to play the game online.

The game is legal within state and federal law as being a game of chance, it is not considered to be gambling. The game asks player to create straight lines using the Tetris blocks- which are called Tetriminos-with 10 levels of difficulty available for play. The cost of a ticket is US$3, and possible winnings go up to US$10,000.

The decision to host another game on the lottery site follows the success of Cyber Slingo since its launch. $12 million has been taken by this first game since it went online, and lottery executive director William Jourdain, is hoping that the Tetris game will enjoy similar success, and specifically prove to be a game which draws in a younger player. Foster Krupa the marketing manager for the lottery explained: 'People who grew up with Tetris are now in their 20s and 30s… we wanted a product that would be interesting to the younger player.'
