It has been revealed that Great Yarmouth District Council have this week granted permission for a new 250,000 ft.² leisure project in the centre of Great Yarmouth. The scheme, known as "The Edge", is the brainchild of a company called Pleasure and Leisure and will be situated along the great Yarmouth "Golden Mile" beach which will offer a massive walk-in customer base.
The £35 million scheme will consist of a number of food outlets, bowling alley, 10 screen cinema and the pride and joy which is a 60,000 ft.² casino. This is one of the new age casinos in the UK and while it has taken some time for the local council to confirm the project, it appears to be all systems go at the moment. It looks as though finance for the project had already been secured prior to the credit crunch and ongoing economic downturn although nothing is ever certain in the world of finance and business.
Work on the project will start later this year and offer substantial employment opportunities to the region as well as a significant income for the local authorities when it is up and running. The UK Casino revival has had a number of false starts but it would appear as though Great Yarmouth could be about to lead the UK into a new era.
