Playboy Poker To Shut

Not able to wait for Obama, online poker room is reportedly closing its doors to players next week after only 30 months in operation.

Friday 23rd January 2009

According to numerous reports, online poker room PlayboyPoker.com is set to close its doors forever later this month after being forbidden from accepting US-based customers almost from its inception. The Malta-licensed site launched in July of 2006 but was hit by the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) only three months later, which stopped it accepting money through American financial institutions on behalf of players. The site is owned by Playboy Gaming, a subsidiary of the highly successful Playboy Enterprises International Incorporated global publishing and entertainment concern, and powered by software from CryptoLogic. However, it allegedly sent an e-mail to members last week stating that ‘Playboy Gaming will no longer have a poker site and will not be moving to another network’. The timing for the virtual poker room is unfortunate as many expect the current prohibition on online gambling to be overturned under new American President Barack Obama, leading to a brighter and more prosperous future. However, the site has reportedly stated that its final day of operation will be January 29, only nine days into Obama’s four-year term.
