Prior to the Aussie millions poker tournament at the Melbourne Crown Casino there had been calls for Australian poker players to up their game and show that Australia really means business. Thankfully for the Australian poker community this call was answered and Stewart Scott took the main event title having taken on and beaten 680 rivals!
The event read like a who's who of the poker world as well as attracting sporting greats such as Shane Warne and tennis sensation Mark Philippoussis. The event has attracted substantial media coverage and aside from the World Series of poker is seen by many as the leading poker tournament in the world. Even in the midst of the current economic downturn, in both Australia and worldwide, demand has been greater than ever and the competition as tough as could be.
Stewart Scott had remained fairly "middle-of-the-road" for the first three days of the tournament although day four saw him burst from the pack and enter the final table with over 4.5 million chips. The final table lasted an energy sapping 12 hours but one by one Scott picked off each and every one of his opponents to finally claim the crown and instil yet more pride into the Australian poker community.
