GTECH to launch computerized Keno in China

Vendor signs major contract to launch new keno and online lottery services

Tuesday 10th February 2004

The Beijing Welfare Lottery Center (BWLC) has announced signing a new multi-year contract with GTECH Corporation, which provide them with equipment, software, and technical services to operate a computerized keno game in Beijing from April 1, 2004.

The Chinese organizaton also extended GTECH’s original online lottery services contract for an additional three years through December 31, 2012. The new computerized Club Keno is based on a traditional game that originated in China more than 3,000 years ago and is one of the most popular games in today’s lottery industry. BWLC expects to introduce Club Keno in age-controlled locations throughout Beijing in August 2004.

GTECH President and CEO W. Bruce Turner said: “It is fitting for GTECH to offer BWLC the opportunity to generate additional revenue with this exciting, fast-paced game in this very important region”.

According to the new contract, GTECH will provide a turnkey system to BWLC, including keno equipment, monitors, and game software for the Club Keno game besides 500 to 2000 networked gambling terminals. The vendor will also provide BWLC with the Internet Protocol (IP) based software that connects a lottery’s transaction processing engine to a multitude of sales channels and devices on existing lottery systems.
