Camelot Dreams of Pan European Lottery
UK lottery provider draws closer to realising unified European jackpot
Friday 6th February 2004
Camelot is to experiment with the first ever Pan European Lottery this weekend, as tickets for a new weekly draw will go on sale in the UK and Irish Republic this Saturday, and in Spain on Monday. If successful, the company hopes to add other nations to the draw in coming years, with an aim to fulfilling its dream of a continent-wide jackpot.
There should be enough to lure in potential customers, with the promise of a £10 million top prize, a figure that will increase to a potential £50 as more nations become involved. Camelot says that chances of winning are also greater: one in twenty-four, as opposed to one in fifty-four in the UK national draw.
Dianne Thompson, Camelot's chief executive, said: 'For our players this is a really dynamic game. It has been designed to create larger jackpots that will grow and grow and grow. The chances of winning £30m, £40m or £50m [will] become a reality. Teaming up with these countries is a major step forward for the National Lottery and many other countries in Europe are queuing up to join,' she added. 'We have designed Euro-Millions to accept new countries from Europe and they will bring with them new players and fresh excitement to play.'
