Asian Poker Tour Doubles Macau Tournament

Popular stop on the Asian poker calendar has been given permission to run for twelve days beginning on August 12.

Monday 30th March 2009

The Asian Poker Tour has announced that authorities have given it permission to expand its popular Macau event from six days to twelve in order to create Asia’s first festival of poker. The Asian Poker Tour Macau Festival is scheduled to begin on August 12 and run until August 23 at the Galaxy StarWorld Hotel And Casino. The tournament will feature an extended Main Event starting on August 19 with a buy-in of $4,300 alongside a televised final table scheduled for August 23. Organisers revealed that the decision to extend this year’s event was taken following the success of the 2008 tournament, which attracted some of the most famous names in the game including Doyle Brunson, Jack Binion, Johnny Chan, John Juanda, Huck Seed, Liz Lieu, Todd Brunson, Kenny Tran and Poker Pack members Nam Le, Quinn Do, JC Tran, Steve Sung, David ‘Chino’ Rheem and Kwang Soo Lee. Last year’s event and its $500,000 first-place prize was won by 20-year-old American player Yevgeniy Timoshenko after he emerged triumphant from a field that featured competitors from over 40 nations. “The Asian Poker Tour Macau Festival will feature a side event schedule never seen in Asia before including several new formats that will stir the curiosity of poker enthusiasts at all levels,” said Chris Parker, Chief Executive Officer for the Asian Poker Tour. “We believe Asia’s first festival of poker will establish Macau as an essential stop on the international poker circuit.” Parker revealed that high-limit games and sit-n-go tables would run throughout the duration of the event alongside a repeat of last year’s $129,000 high-rollers game with the addition of expected daily six-figure pots.
