We now see that the three 'power' programs in the state of Florida may have finally come back to the mean in their perspective conferences. They will get their share of W's but I do not believe many will come as easy as we first thought back in August.
I look to Clemson to give the Hurricanes all they can handle this week. Clemson tripped up early in the year against a Georgia Tech team with bad clock management and a bad snap from center which led to a tailspin that wasn't corrected until they reeled off three straight wins, which concluded with North Carolina State this past Saturday.
Miami got very fortunate in their two toughest games with both Florida State and Louisville to come out on top but the bubble burst with an emotional but much less talented Tar Heels bunch that even had Roy Williams clapping with joy. Although never documented, it seems when one of these power teams falls as a huge favorite they are more apt than less to struggle the following week.
Clemson QB Whitehurst can be iffy at times but played well against N.C. State's defense which I think is good or even better than Miami's.
The Hurricanes are out of the hunt for the big prize and although Coker will say the diplomatic things this week, playing second fiddle is not on their dance card. Look for this one to be decided late.
Take care,
Jimmy V.
