Australian gambling and entertainment group TabCorp Holdings Limited has signed a two-year sponsorship deal with Harness Racing Victoria for a pair of the southern state’s most celebrated horse races.
Under the agreement, TabCorp has secured the naming rights for the prestigious Australasian Breeders Crown while renewing its sponsorship of Victoria's signature Hunter Cup race, the nation's richest handicap event.
The Hunter Cup will continue to be known as the Big6 Hunter Cup to promote TabCorp's new ‘six-up’ bet, which is similar to offerings at Hong Kong racecourses and awards large prizes for correctly picking six winners.
TabCorp stated that its sponsorship of the Australasian Breeders Crown would promote its general brand and includes the heats, repechages and finals of the series.
This latest sponsorship deal follows the opening of a new $30 million racing and entertainment complex near Melbourne that has been named TabCorp Park under a separate agreement finalised last year. The new facility was built by Harness Racing Victoria and also contains a 41-room four-star hotel, function and conference rooms, a bistro, a gaming room, a sports bar and betting facilities.
'We're delighted to welcome TabCorp on board as the naming rights sponsor of the Big6 Hunter Cup and the TabCorp Australasian Breeders Crown,' said Neil Busse, Chairman for Harness Racing Victoria.
'This agreement further strengthens the positive relationship we enjoy with our joint venture partner TabCorp, who is indeed committed to the success of harness racing in Victoria. The Big6 Hunter Cup and the TabCorp Australasian Breeders Crown are two of the three biggest harness racing events in Victoria and this agreement helps to consolidate their future.
'With the opening of TabCorp Park, the industry's new $45 million racing and entertainment complex at Melton, the road ahead is an exciting one in Victoria and we thank TabCorp for the role it has played in supporting the development of harness racing in this state.'
