Virgin Games may be considering the betting exchange model
Friday 6th August 2004
NewMediaAge reported today that Virgin may be strongly considering launching a betting exchange in the near future. Branson’s company is currently understood to be in talks with several potential partners about a move into Virgin branded online sports betting, with a number of betting exchanges said to be involved.
Since launching Virgin Games in June, the company has been interested in expanding its gambling wing into sports betting, but is said to be hesitant as to whether a traditional bookmaking operation would be right for the Virgin brand. Branson has been vocal about his admiration for Betfair as a business innovation in the past, but the betting exchange has refused to offer any information as to whether or not it is involved in talks.
Virgin Games’ Chairman, Simon Burridge, however was able to tell NMA that, 'There is a range of options, which include exchanges. We’re looking at the timeframe of one month to make a decision.'
