New social Texas hold’em game has been released by Playfish allowing participants to animate their avatars and purchase goods using their winnings.

Fans of poker can now enjoy their favourite game on popular site Facebook courtesy of British social games developer Playfish Limited and its new Poker Rivals beta test application.
London-based Playfish was recently purchased for up to $400 million by industry giant Electronic Arts and is testing the waters with Poker Rivals following the success of Texas Hold’em Poker from rival developer Zynga.
Although still being tested, players pull on a virtual version of themselves during the social game and compete at poker. While additional features will no doubt be added as development progresses, Poker Rivals already comes complete with some unique facets including the ability for participants to purchase items using their winnings. In addition, players can decorate their avatars and animate their characters in the game.
