Indianapolis still favourite despite loss

Super Bowl XLIV takes place next month and VictorChandler.com and StanJames.com are offering the Colts at odds of 5/2 for a win.

Wednesday 30th December 2009

Despite losing its perfect record at home last weekend to the resurgent New York Jets, the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts remain favourites to win Super Bowl XLIV next month in Miami. The Jets ended the Colts’ pursuit of perfection and its NFL-record 23-game winning streak with a 29 points to 15 victory on Sunday but Ladbrokes.com, VictorChandler.com and StanJames.com are still showing Indianapolis at odds of 5/2 to win the Super Bowl. Slightly longer, WilliamHill.com, BlueSq.com, 888Sport.com, PaddyPower.com and Coral.co.uk are offering Jim Caldwell’s men at odds of 11/4 followed by SkyBet.com, Bet365.com, ToteSport.com, BoyleSports.com and BetFred.com with 3/1. Super Bowl XLIV will take place on February 7 at Miami’s Dolphin Stadium and BetDaq.com is showing odds of 157/50 that Indianapolis will win the occasion to take home the third title in its history while WBX.com and Betfair.com are offering 17/5. The favourable odds available on the Colts have, no doubt, been helped by the fact that last weekend saw the New Orleans Saints lose at home for the second week in a row, this time to the lowly Tampa Bay Buccaneers by 20 points to 17. The Saints had matched the Colts’ record right up to week 15 when the franchise fell to the Dallas Cowboys by 24 points to 17. However, WilliamHill.com is still offering odds of 3/1 on New Orleans to win its first Super Bowl title in Miami next month. The Saints travel to the Carolina Panthers on January 3 and should finish the season with a record of 14 wins and two defeats. It then has two weeks off to prepare to meet the lowest winning seed from the NFC wild-card round with Coral.co.uk offering odds of 10/3 on a New Orleans Super Bowl win. Similarly, Ladbrokes.com, SkyBet.com, 888Sport.com, ToteSport.com, VictorChandler.com, PaddyPower.com and BlueSq.com show New Orleans at odds of 7/2 for Super Bowl XLIV while Bet365.com is going with 18/5. At the longer end of the spectrum, BetDaq.com currently shows the Saints at 371/100 while bettors can get 4/1 from BoyleSports.com, StanJames.com, Betfair.com, WBX.com and BetFred.com. San Diego is another team that has emerged as a serious contender for this season’s Super Bowl title after posting its tenth straight victory on Christmas Day by beating the Tennessee Titans by 42 points to 17. That win means the Chargers have now not lost since October 19 with the AFC franchise scoring an average of over 30 points per contest, which is the second highest in the NFL. BetFred.com, 888Sport.com, StanJames.com, PaddyPower.com, VictorChandler.com and BlueSq.com have the California team at odds of 7/2 to win the Super Bowl followed by SkyBet.com, Bet365.com, ToteSport.com, BoyleSports.com, Coral.co.uk, Ladbrokes.com and WilliamHill.com with 4/1. Not unreasonable, punters can get odds of 27/5 from WBX.com on San Diego winning its first Super Bowl title next month while Betfair.com and BetDaq.com show 11/2.
