Two players that qualified for the main event of last week’s 2010 Aussie Millions tournament via leading online poker site PartyPoker.com have walked away with a total of over $2.76 million after finishing in first and second spots.
The Gibraltar-licensed site revealed that 23-year-old Tyron Krost from Sydney outlasted 748 competitors including 42 other PartyPoker.com online qualifiers at Melbourne’s Crown Casino to take first place and its $1.78 million prize.
In addition, 27-year-old Frederik Jensen from Copenhagen earned himself just over $981,000 for finishing in second spot. The pair of online qualifiers dominated a final table that included star names such as Annette Obrestad and Sorel Mizzi while luminary Gus Hansen went out to Krost earlier on.
“This is totally unbelievable,” said Krost, who works for his family-owned office furniture business.
“It is beyond my wildest dreams. If it is a dream, I don't want to wake up.
“In total, I spent $700 trying to qualify for a package and I have managed to turn that into $1.78 million. I got some really good spots on the final table. When I needed a hand, I seemed to get it.”
Krost recently graduated from university after studying psychology and finance and revealed that he is looking forward to a future in poker.
“It just hasn't sunk in at all how much money I have just won,” said the champion.
“I have no idea what I am going to with it. I cashed at the World Series in 2008 but nothing like this.”
Canadian professional poker player Mizzi took third spot for $637,500 while Kosta Varoxis walked away in fourth for $401,200. Rounding out the final table was Peter Jetten in fifth for $312,000 while Steve Friedlander finished in sixth to take home $222,900 followed by Obrestad in seventh for $156,000 and Stephen Shelly in eighth for $111,400.
