First Gemini deal for GTECH

American gaming technology and services firm will provide Washington’s Lottery with 960 of its new self-service lottery vending machines.

Friday 5th February 2010

Leading American gaming technology and services firm GTECH Corporation has signed a contract amendment that will see it provide Washington’s Lottery with its Gemini self-service lottery vending machine. The deal marks GTECH’s first for its Gemini product and also covers the provision of additional instant-ticket vending devices and technology. Providence-based GTECH is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Italy’s Lottomatica, one of the world’s largest commercial lottery operators, and stated that it expects to receive revenues of approximately $25 million from the deal beginning during the fourth quarter of this year and running until June of 2016. Under the agreement, GTECH will replace some of the Lottery’s existing Instant To Go instant-ticket only vending machines with 960 Gemini units. It stated that this installation should be complete for November and would make for a more ‘streamlined lottery transaction’ while also ‘preventing underage usage by requiring the player to scan a driver's license before purchasing lottery products’. “GTECH is listening to, and acting on, the ever-changing market needs of its customers in order to better understand and address the requirements of the lottery industry,” Jaymin Patel, President and Chief Executive Officer for GTECH. “As a result, we are creating market-driven solutions such as the Gemini lottery product vending machine, which will benefit lotteries, retailers and players alike. “With Gemini, Washington’s Lottery will gain enhanced online and instant sales, inventory and machine status reporting and the ability to attract new players who prefer the self-service option while retailers will see reduced labour associated with selling lottery products. “With the added feature of Enterprise Series MultiMedia incorporated into the machine, the Lottery will also be able to manage, distribute and display multi-media content such as game advertising and messaging through a single point of control. We are pleased that Washington’s Lottery will be the first to deploy such an innovative product.”
