Asia-facing lottery firm Betex Group has signed an exclusive five-year contract with the Nanjing Welfare Lottery Management Centre that will see it launch and operate a retail lottery concept across Nanjing, the capital of Jiangsu Province.
UK-based Betex already manages sports lottery operations in Hebei, Guizhou and Guangdong and its latest agreement will see it market and sell Welfare Lottery products from kiosk-style point-of-sale outlets in high footfall locations including supermarkets beginning this month.
The London-based firm revealed that it would initially operate 20 co-branded kiosks selling products including traditional computerised lottery games alongside scratchcards and high-frequency draws before expanding the operation to 150 sites by the end of 2010.
Betex stated that it had also signed distribution agreements with a number of premier retail brand outlets in Nanjing that will allow it to site kiosks within selected high-footfall stores throughout the licence period.
“I'm delighted that we have secured our first agreement in the welfare lottery sector in such a high-profile city,” said Jeremy Longley, Chief Executive Officer for Betex.
“This is a significant and exciting deal for the company and demonstrates the strength of our brand in China. I believe we have identified a retail strategy that combines two essential ingredients, short-term revenue generation and profitability with long-term scope for roll-out and growth.”
