In America, the small eastern state of Delaware has legalised table games such as blackjack, poker, roulette and craps in its three casinos while establishing a new regulatory framework.
Gamblers in the state can already place bets on multiple National Football League (NFL) matches, the only place east of the Mississippi River where this is allowed, and the new table games could complement this offering to increase gaming revenues by an estimated eight percent per year.
Delaware is also currently considering whether to go before the US Supreme Court in order to challenge last year’s ruling by the Third Circuit Court Of Appeals that prohibited it from offering single game bets on all sports. Owing to a brief experiment with parlay sportsbetting in 1976, Delaware is one of four states along with Oregon, Montana and Nevada that were thought to be fully exempt from 1992’s Professional And Amateur Sports Protection Act. The state has petitioned the US Supreme Court for an appeal to overturn the Third Circuit Court Of Appeals ruling while hiring the Washington, DC-based law firm Sidley Austin.
Delaware now joins Pennsylvania in offering table games in its casinos with the new regulations stipulating that operators may keep 66 percent of all revenues with the state receiving 29 percent while the remainder will be used to subsidise horseracing purses.
