Leading French commercial broadcaster TF1 has announced that it will take control of SPS SA, the operator of online poker and sportsbetting site EurosportBet.com, by purchasing 50 percent of the firm from investment fund Serendipity.
According to a report from the Reuters news agency, TF1 already held a 50 percent stake in the online operator with the remaining half being purchased for an undisclosed amount.
EurosportBet.com launched a betting platform in the UK in June after obtaining a license from the jurisdiction of Alderney. Numerous reports allege that it will bid for a French iGaming licence once that nation ends its current state monopoly on online gambling.
“This acquisition is part of the TF1’s group 360-degree strategy, which ranges from board games to online betting and gaming in the field of sport,' read a statement from TF1.
In addition, TF1 also revealed that it has signed a three-year deal with French lottery operator La Francaise Des Jeux that will see it offer viewers and Internet users a dedicated gaming area on its TF1.fr website.
