In Australia, leading online sportsbetting and gaming operator SportingBet has become the first wagering firm to sign a sponsorship deal with a National Rugby League (NRL) team after agreeing a one-year deal with the Brisbane Broncos.
The agreement will see SportingBet’s logo appear on the lower back of the Australian team’s shirt for the 2010 season, which begins on March 12 with a home game against the North Queensland Cowboys.
“The Broncos are a tremendous organisation both on and off the field and that is why we decided to increase our involvement with them in 2010,” said Michael Sullivan, Chief Executive Officer for SportingBet Australia.
“We are also very excited to be the first wagering company to be on an NRL jersey. SportingBet has contributed heavily to the sports we bet on and this is another great opportunity for us to support rugby league.”
SportingBet enjoyed a significant signage deal with the Brisbane team last season with the Bronco’s Chief Executive Officer, Bruno Cullen, stating that he was impressed with the firm’s willingness to upgrade their relationship.
“I am very pleased that SportingBet has given our club a ringing endorsement by upgrading last year’s signage deal to a fully-fledged jersey sponsorship,” said Cullen.
“It now joins a historically elite and unique family of jersey sponsors with the Broncos.
“SportingBet is a strong and popular sporting brand in Australia, much like the Brisbane Broncos are, and because of this I am certain the two entities will form a wonderful partnership.”
