Leading online domain marketplace and monetisation provider Search Engine For Domain Offers (SEDO) GmbH has brokered the sale of Poker.org from A-1 National Advertising to PokerCompany.com for one million dollars.
The Cologne-based firm stated that the sale represents the largest amount ever paid for an .org domain name and demonstrates the ‘tremendous strength of a premium generic within the overall domain market’ while solidifying the value of the extension.
SEDO revealed that the next highest amount ever paid for an .org extension was $198,000 for Engineering.org while Sexe.org sold for $151,400 and Date.org for $151,000.
The German firm stated that the Public Interest Registry’s 2009 bi-annual domain name report saw .org registrations grow by 8.4 percent year-on-year to 7.98 million, making it the world’s third largest generic extension after .com and .net.
“Poker.org is an integral part of our growth strategy and will provide great dividends now and into the future,” read a statement from PokerCompany.com.
“We expect to see growing demand for .org domains as organisations and individual investors recognise their full value and potential,” said Kathy Nielsen, Sales Director for SEDO.
“SEDO remains the choice for buying and selling the best previously registered virtual properties across all extensions as evidenced by the impressive sale price secured for Poker.org.”
