iGGBA welcomes Joint Scrutiny Committee Report

iGGBA welcomes Joint Scrutiny Committee Report

Wednesday 7th April 2004

The interactive Gaming, Gambling and Betting Association (iGGBA) welcomes the publication of the report by the Joint Parliamentary Committee on the Draft Gambling Bill and its critical support of the Government’s aim to offer a UK licence to remote gambling operators.

'iGGBA is fully supportive of the main recommendations made by the Committee. Regulation and we are pleased that the Committee recognizes that the regulations and subsequent licence should be made available as soon as possible,' stated Andrew Tottenham, Chairman of iGGBA.

iGGBA welcomes the main thrusts of the report which include a call for a robust Code of social responsibility for remote gambling, built on the Code of Social Responsibility between iGGBA and Gamcare. The report also calls for immediate consultations with the industry as to the possible form of the regulations. More importantly the Committee urges the Bill to be introduced before the end of the year.

'We are also very pleased with the Scrutiny Committee's upholding of the country of origin principle for providing services across borders and with the Government's vision of the UK 'as a global market where a well-regulated British based industry is able to establish itself as a world leader’” stated Mr. Tottenham.

As an industry body, iGGBA continues to work tirelessly on a set of robust rules and regulations to govern the industry and protect consumers. The Association looks forward sharing this work with the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, the Parliament and the Gambling Commission as its moves forward.
