Boys of summer return for 2010

The latest season of Major League Baseball begins next week with the New York Yankees highly fancied to win its 28th World Series title.

Monday 22nd March 2010

In America, the start of the 2010 Major League Baseball (MLB) season is less than one week away with the defending World Series champion New York Yankees fancied to win its 28th title come October. The 2010 season gets underway on Sunday evening with the Yankees travelling to face the Boston Red Sox in Massachusetts. New York defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in last season’s seven-game World Series by four games to two with BetDaq.com showing odds of 57/20 on a repeat for the ‘Bronx bombers’. Each team will play 162 regular season games throughout the course of the summer with one franchise from each of the MLB’s six divisions making it into the playoffs alongside two wildcard sides, one from the American League with another representing the National League. New York of the American League is shown at odds of 3/1 to win the 2010 World Series with 888Sport.com, BlueSq.com, Bet365.com and StanJames.com while WBX.com is going with 16/5. Slightly longer, Bwin.com has 13/4 followed by Betfair.com showing 171/50 and WilliamHill.com, SkyBet.com, Ladbrokes.com, Expekt.com, ToteSport.com, BoyleSports.com, SportingBet.com, BetFred.com, PaddyPower.com and VictorChandler.com with 7/2. The Boston Red Sox have won the World Series on seven occasions including in 2004 and 2007 and are being shown at odds of 6/1 to do it again in 2010 by Bwin.com, bet365.com and ToteSport.com. The side earned the American League wildcard berth into last season’s playoffs despite finishing eight games below the Yankees and was subsequently knocked out in the first round by the Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim. However, BetDaq.com thinks that Boston will have a better 2010 and is showing odds of 63/10 on World Series success while VictorChandler.com and StanJames.com are going with 13/2. Slightly longer, punters can get odds of 33/5 on Boston winning the 2010 World Series from WBX.com followed by 34/5 from Betfair.com and 7/1 with SkyBet.com, BoyleSports.com, SportingBet.com, BetFred.com, Bluesq.com, PaddyPower.com, Ladbrokes.com, WilliamHill.com, Expekt.com and 888Sport.com. Last season’s beaten World Series finalists are also high on the bookmakers’ lists with the Philadelphia Phillies listed at odds of 19/5 with BetDaq.com to go one better this year while WBX.com shows 27/5. The Phillies were champions of the National League last season and had also defeated the Tampa Bay Rays by four games to one to win the 2008 World Series. Bet365.com is offering odds of 11/2 on the Pennsylvania team winning its third World Series in 2010 while SportingBet.com, BlueSq.com and 888Sport.com show 6/1. The Phillies begin the 2010 season on the road next Monday afternoon against the Washington Nationals with Betfair.com showing odds of 63/10 on World Series success for Philadelphia in 2010. This is followed by 13/2 at WilliamHill.com, BoyleSports.com, Bwin.com and StanJames.com while Ladbrokes.com, SkyBet.com, VictorChandler.com, PaddyPower.com, ToteSport.com and Expekt.com are going with 7/1. The St Louis Cardinals of the National League are the second most successful team in baseball with ten World Series titles and are being offered at odds of 9/1 by Bet365.com to make it eleven come the end of the 2010 season. The Cardinals were knocked out in the first round of the playoffs last season by the Los Angeles Dodgers but have tasted World Series success as recently as 2006. Bettors can get odds of 10/1 on the Cardinals winning the 2010 World Series from Bwin.com while Expekt.com is going with 11/1. Fans of the Missouri side can get odds of 12/1 from StanJames.com, BoyleSports.com, SportingBet.com, ToteSport.com and SkyBet.com on a World Series triumph with BetDaq.com showing 69/5 followed by 14/1 at 888Sport.com, Ladbrokes.com, WilliamHill.com, BlueSq.com, PaddyPower.com, BetFred.com and VictorChandler.com.
