The draw for the quarter-finals of this season’s UEFA Champions League took place on Friday and saw favourites Barcelona selected to face Arsenal for the first time since 2006’s final.
The quarter-finals are scheduled for March 30 and 31 before the return legs take place over April 6 and 7 with Manchester United drawn to play Bayern Munich, who they famously beat in the final at Camp Nou in 1999.
There is also an all-French clash as Ligue 1 leaders Bordeaux take on Lyon while the remaining fixture has Italy’s Inter Milan up against CSKA Moscow with the second leg in Russia.
Barcelona remain the bookmaker’s favourite to win this season’s Champions League with Bwin.com offering odds of 24/13 on Josep Guardiola’s men lifting the team’s fourth European title. Slightly longer, Ladbrokes.com, BetFred.com, SkyBet.com, PaddyPower.com, ExtraBet.com and Coral.co.uk show 15/8 while SportingBet.com, Betfair.com and BetDaq.com are going with 19/10.
Barcelona are the Champions League’s defending champions after defeating Manchester United in May’s final in Rome by two goals to none and WBX.com is offering odds of 48/25 on a repeat, which is something no club has ever managed to do. For their part, Bet365.com, BoyleSports.com BlueSq.com, VictorChandler.com, WilliamHill.com, 888Sport.com and StanJames.com show the Spanish side at 2/1 to triumph followed by ToteSport.com with 21/10.
The draw for the subsequent semi-finals also took place last week with the winner of the game between Lyon and Bordeaux scheduled to play at home in the second leg against Manchester United or Bayern Munich while Arsenal or Barcelona will have home advantage in the second leg against Inter Milan or CSKA Moscow. The semi-finals will take place on April 20 and 21 with the return legs on April 27 and 28 while the final is due to be held at the Bernabeu in Madrid on May 22.
Manchester United are second favourite to win this season’s Champions League with Coral.co.uk offering odds of 9/4 on Sir Alex Ferguson’s side followed by PaddyPower.com with 13/5.
Bayern Munich are sure to prove tough opposition but a second leg at Old Trafford has seen ToteSport.com and VictorChandler.com offer odds of 11/4 on the English side while Ladbrokes.com, ExtraBet.com, SkyBet.com, WilliamHill.com, Bet365.com, SportingBet.com, BlueSq.com, StanJames.com and 888Sport.com show 3/1.
Manchester United last won the Champions League two seasons ago in a close final in Moscow against Chelsea and bettors can get odds of 31/10 from WBX.com on success this time out. Slightly longer, BoyleSports.com and BetFred.com are going with 10/3 on Manchester United winning their fourth European title while BetDaq.com and Betfair.com shows 171/50 and Bwin.com has 7/2.
Despite the prospect of facing Barcelona in a semi-final contest, Inter Milan are also fancied for European glory with WilliamHill.com, StanJames.com, SkyBet.com and BoyleSports.com showing odds of 10/3.
In the last round, Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho overcame his former employers, Chelsea, to book his side’s spot in the quarter-finals. This has led bet365.com, BetFred.com, BlueSq.com, VictorChandler.com, SportingBet.com, 888Sport.com, Ladbrokes.com and Bwin.com to offer odds of 7/2 on a third European title and the first since 1965 for the ‘Nerazzurri’ while ToteSport.com shows 18/5.
