Gaming Giant Considering Listing on the London Stock Exchange

Betonsports.com, the Costa Rica-based online bookie, is considering listing on the London Stock Exchange. The company tried for a UK flotation in 2000, but the dot-com bust eliminated those plans. Sources cited by a report in the Independent on Sunday say BetonSports.com has contacted several UK-based financial advisers to see if the market has improved for IPOs. The past few months has seen a resurgence of tech-IPOs in the UK, and the proposed gambling reforms in the Gambling Bill are another draw for US online gambling companies.

Betonsports can look to the success of UK-listed Sportingbet. Sportingbet moved from London’s Ofex market to the Alternative Investment Market – AIM – in 2001. The company now has a market valuation of £154.

Betonsports.com already has a UK bookmakers license. It took 1.6 million bets on the US NCAA college basketball tournament last year, a handle of £54.2m ($98.3m).
