Beware Of The Dark Of 'Knight'
Beware Of The Dark Of 'Knight'
Wednesday 11th February 2004

Watching Knight's teams play basketball remains educational for devotees of the sport, but the possibility of his going ballistic on the sideline lends a special fascination to each encounter. In time, his superiors at Texas Tech might find him a source of embarrassment, but that's part of the bargain to which they agreed, or to which others agreed in their name.
If he can rip into the chancellor over lunch in a local market and get away with nothing more than a mild reprimand, let's see what he can do back on college basketball's grand stage, the NCAA Tournament. That's where the Red Raiders (17-4) are headed.
Knight has had some memorable moments in the tournament, pounding the scorer's table with his fist when he disagreed with the officiating, belittling a public relations person who passed along a message that he would not attend an interview, pretending to whip Calbert Cheaney after a practice session and bragging that he deposited the fan of an opposing team in a trash can.
That's the coach who has become a lightning rod for the sport, the bully who offsets his insistence on players getting their degrees with language and antics that belie his self-image as an educator, the man who preaches discipline to his players but fails to practice it himself.
Maybe the folks in Lubbock thought Dr. Jekyll was leaving Mr. Hyde behind in Bloomington when he took the opportunity to continue his career. If so, they should have known better.
Knight is on the loose again. It could happen anywhere or at any time, during a TV interview with a person he knows - and a former coach, at that - or between bites during dinner.
Perhaps the most-scariest thing about Bobby Knight is his biddy un-soulful black eyes. NEVER ever wager on 'his' team, because players are hypnotize at his control freak antics………….
