The 17-5 SU Jackets are perhaps the biggest surprise of the college hoops scene this year. And their unexpected success led to a trail of cash for those wise enough to back them early. In fact, the Yellow Jackets opened the year on an 8-2 ATS run their first ten lined games. That said, the oddsmakers have since adjusted and this upstart Georgia Tech team has been sapped of any remaining value. After all, they are just 1-4 ATS their last five games overall, as well as 0-2 ATS their last two at home.



The Tarheels, on the other hand, are on a 2-0 ATS run and have cashed three of their last five overall. Their last two covers were particularly impressive. They actually defeated Wake Forest outright as a 3.5-point road dog this past Saturday. Prior to that, they pushed national powerhouse Duke to overtime before finally losing by 2 as a 3.5-point home dog.



The Jackets stand at 4-4 SU in conference play, while the Heels stand at 4-5 SU in conference play. Needless to say, this contest has huge implications in the ACC standings and presumably is more important for North Carolina. A loss would drop the Heels to 4-6 SU in the ACC with two very formidable games on the horizon (at Duke and at NC State). Should they lose this game and drop their next two, the only postseason ticket Carolina may be stamping is to the NIT. This team responded well to desperation in their last contest when they upended Wake Forest and we see much of the same materializing tonight.



UNC crushed the Jackets 103-88 as a 4.5-point Chapel Hill favorite when these two hooked up in early January. That victory improved the Tarheels to 5-2 SU the past seven meetings. When all is said and done, we expect a hotly contested ACC barnburner. We will call for the straight up UNC win, but will gladly accept the generous points as insurance..
