Isle Of Man-licensed PokerStars.com, one of the world’s largest online poker rooms, is sponsoring a pair of climbers as they attempt to become the first to partake in a game of poker while standing on the summit of Mount Everest.
Twin brothers Damien and Guillermo ‘Willie’ Benegas will attempt to conquer the world’s highest peak later this summer while playing poker along the way and at the summit. If successful, the Argentina-born duo hopes to claim the record for the highest altitude poker game ever played.
PokerStars.com is celebrating the brother’s unique attempt by hosting an online tournament this Sunday offering the winner the chance to partake in a game alongside the pair at Everest Base Camp. This special competition kicks off on Sunday from six o’clock in the evening New York time and has a buy-in of $1.10 with the overall champion receiving an all expense paid journey to the historic staging point at over 17,000 feet above sea level.
“‘Willy’ has already climbed the world’s highest mountain a mind-blowing nine times and now PokerStars.com is sponsoring him as he makes his way towards reaching the summit for the tenth,” read a statement from PokerStars.com.
“It’s an incredible achievement and you can join the Benegas brothers at one of the most breathtaking and awe-inspiring places on the planet. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime trip and it could all be yours for free.”
