Online bookmakers hope to be taking a million a month through WAP bets

Rather than being dead in the water, Blue Square has announced they expect to be generating a million pounds a month through WAP bets by June this year. The online bookmaker has seen a 30% month-by-month rise in profit from wireless wagering since November and hopes that forthcoming major sporting events, particularly the Euro2004 soccer tournament, will accelerate this profit even further. 'By June, I'd be staggered if we aren't taking £1million through Vodafone Live! alone,' commercial director Ed Andrewes told New Media Zero.
Blue Square has offered a sportsbook on Vodafone Live! for a year and on rival Orange World since December.
