Betfair Bowl to Replace Martell Cup

Betfair further strengthens its association with the horseracing world

Saturday 1st January 2005

Betfair has taken over the sponsorship of the Martell Cup at Aintree, renaming it the Betfair Bowl, and further strengthening its ties with British horseracing. The three-year deal will position the world’s leading betting exchange as official betting partner to the John Smith’s Grand National meeting.

The deal will give Betfair a heavy brand presence at the famous meet, which has a 600 million worldwide audience; according to the Racing Post, the company will also supply the official betting prices, which means that for the first time ever the official Grand National odds will be represented in decimals, not fractions.

Betfair will have sponsored 141 races this year, comprising over £1m in prize-money.
