Leading online poker site PKR.com has announced that a team from Romania won its inaugural World Cup competition after the sextet defeated opposition from Poland in a series of heads-up sit-and-go games on Saturday evening.
The final saw each player contest a trio of heads-up sit-and-go games with Romania emerging triumphant by a score of eleven wins for seven losses while players ‘vreaubani’ and ‘jucatorulSS’ went undefeated.
Both nations earned their spot in the final courtesy of impressive performances in the previous round where competitors’ six-maximum sit-and-go skills were tested and Romanian players ‘vreaubani’ and ‘jucatorulSS’ join ‘sledger’, ‘SuperSimi’, ‘GrabAndSmash’ and ‘danutz003’ in winning 750 in addition to a signed shirt from the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
“Spare a thought for the unlucky runners-up from Poland who fought bravely to reach the final yet leave empty-handed despite team member ‘adam3617’ going three-out-of-three in the final round,” read a statement from the Alderney-licensed site.
“They deserve credit for a fine run but it's Romania who we celebrate as World Cup champions.”
As a result of Romania’s win, PKR.com is offering any player from that nation who participated in any of its World Cup qualifying events the chance to take part in a special freeroll on Saturday night. It stated that there is set to be a prize pool worth $2,758 up for grabs between just 39 eligible entrants.
