After playing 78 hours of poker over eight days, the giant field for the main event at this year’s World Series Of Poker (WSOP) 2010 has been whittled down to a final table with Jonathan Duhamel favoured to finish atop the ‘November Nine’ and take home the $8.9 million cash prize.
Over 7,300 players entered the $10,000 buy-in no-limit hold’em WSOP main event two weeks ago in Las Vegas to create a total net prize pool of $68.7 million. Among the hopefuls from 92 nations were 18 former champions alongside almost 150 bracelet winners with the action now set to take a break before resuming on November 6.
No Canadian has ever won the main event at the WSOP but this year’s final table contains two in Duhamel and Matthew Jarvis. Duhamel has already cashed twice at this year’s WSOP and goes into the 110-day recess with a commanding lead in the chip count with almost 66 million. Punters can get odds of 6/4 from Betfair.com that the 22-year-old from the Montreal suburb of Boucherville will win it all in November.
With 16.7 million in chips, 25-year-old Jarvis is making his first profitable appearance at the WSOP and the British Columbia native is being shown at odds of 7/1 to win it all by Betfair.com.
Twenty-four-year-old American player John Dolan is also among the favourites with Betfair.com showing odds of 3/1 on the Floridian winning the main event. The pro has six career cashes at the WSOP including three at this year's series and has been one of the more consistent performers at the tournament.
Also at odds of 3/1 with Betfair.com is California native Joseph Cheong while fellow 24-year-old John Racener is listed at 6/1 to take home poker’s biggest prize.
Despite sitting in seventh spot in the chip count with just over 14 million, professional poker player Michael Mizrachi is being offered at odds of 3/1 by Betfair.com to win the main event. The 29-year-old known affectionately as ‘The Grinder’ is among the world’s most successful tournament performers and won his first WSOP gold bracelet alongside $1.5 million at this year's Poker Players’ Championship.
Longer odds of 11/1 are being offered by Betfair.com on medical supplies salesman Cuong ‘Soi’ Nguyen emerging triumphant from the main event of this year’s WSOP while the bookmaker is listing Italian player Fillipo Candio at 13/1.
The first player to crash out of the ‘November Nine’ is still set to walk away with $811,823 in cash and Minnesota native Jason Senti looks favourite for this eventuality as the 25-year-old is only holding 7.6 million chips. Betfair.com currently shows the Minneapolis resident at odds of 15/1 to walk away triumphant but this would still represent the former software engineer’s first ever cash at the famous tournament series.
