In the UK, leading fundraising firm The Weather Lottery is branching out into online gaming after signing a multi-year agreement with Championship soccer side Coventry City.
The Doncaster-based company raises funds for non-profit organisations such as sports clubs, schools and universities and revealed that it began a search for new and diverse clients earlier this year.
The firm’s latest deal will see it launch FCBetz.com in time for the start of the English soccer season next month containing a package of online gaming products for supporters of the ‘Sky Blues’. The AIM-listed company revealed that it would also operate Coventry City’s club lottery under its new football-themed FC Lotto brand, which has been created especially for the football market.
“This contract will commence from the beginning of the football season with The Weather Lottery providing in-stadia and online gambling in addition to its lottery product to the fan base of Coventry City,” read a statement from the Yorkshire firm.
The Weather Lottery returned to profit earlier this year following a sizeable reduction in its cost base. It reported a pre-tax profit of £13,000 for the six months to the end of January against a loss of £26,000 for the previous year.
“As part of our new strategy, we are delighted to be associated with Coventry City and hope this will lead to more gaming and lottery partnerships in the extremely popular and exciting football sector,” said Tim Razzall, Chairman for The Weather Lottery.
